The Forester & Geodata team sit within the Inventory Forecasting & Operational Support centre, an expert, customer focussed provider of forestry information, software and services. To support our Data as a Service (DaaS) provision, the Forester & Geodata team are looking to recruit a Spatial Data Manager to cover maternity leave. This is a one year fixed term appointment. Once we return to offices, the Forester & Geodata team will be based at Silvan House in Edinburgh moving to Forest Research’s Northern Research Station, Roslin by 2022.Job descriptionForester is an integrated, cloud hosted spatial platform for forest and land management that currently services 1600 users across the Forestry Commission and external customers. Sitting within the platform is Forester Geostore, a spatial data and metadata management solution which forms the foundation of our Data as a Service (DaaS) provision. In this role you will be working with the latest spatial technologies and you will take ownership of the day-to-day management of Forester Geostore and the corporate data and metadata it contains. You’ll have responsibility for the maintenance and update of around 400 datasets from a diversity of sources. You’ll work with vector datasets, raster products, aerial photography, satellite imagery and more. Forester Geostore is integral to the wider Forester Platform and services the team provide. Teamwork really is an essential part of this role. Working with our Software as a Service team you will ensure data updates are coordinated with any potential software impacts understood and mitigated. Working with the wider Forester Geostore team you’ll support new developments and enhance our DaaS offer. This role has a strong customer and delivery focus. As a trusted advisor you will support our customers in their use of the corporate spatial data holding and the Forester Geostore platform. Working with the Forester Platform team you will resolve data issues for our customers in a timely manner and act as a champion for Forester Geostore and the Forester Platform. Data and Metadata management • Take the lead in the day-to-day maintenance of Forester Geostore user interfaces and data services. This will include data management, publishing and updating web services and cataloguing metadata. • Take ownership of the timetabling and implementation of updates to corporate spatial data holdings. • Support customers in the management and publication of their own corporate spatial data. Customer engagement and support • Act as a trusted advisor to our customers supporting them in their use of corporate spatial data and the Forester Geostore platform. • Participate in the Forester Geostore service desk provision working with colleagues from across the Forester Platform to resolve issues raised by our users. • Proactively communicate with our users informing them of new data developments, updates and any technical issues. Open data • Working with colleagues from across the FC to manage and maintain our ArcGIS Online site and open data offer. This will include triaging queries from members of the public and ensuring they are resolved in a timely manner. Service development (projects) • Support the DaaS Manager and Forester Geostore project team in the implementation and roll out of new user functionality, data services and infrastructure improvements. Spatial data and mapping support • As required, coordinate with colleagues across the Forester and Geodata team and wider Forestry Commission to support spatial data capture, mapping and GIS analysis projects/programs. Collaborative working • Line manage a number of staff within the Forester and Geodata team. • Work with the wider Forester team to deliver a market-leading geospatial platform on schedule and to a level of quality agreed with our customers. ResponsibilitiesEssential Criteria • A relevant degree/diploma with significant experience in a spatial data/GIS role. • A good working knowledge and proven track record in using a wide range of Esri technologies including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise. • Experience of spatial data management including both vector and raster data types. • Experience of working with large spatial datasets. • Experience of publishing and managing geospatial web services. • A working knowledge of Python or other scripting languages. • Strong interpersonal skills and experience of team working. • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft desktop packages. About the Role
We require Technicians to be based in our Belfast City Centre office. The role involves working on both project and service related contracts across the business including the processing of planning applications through validation processes and our market leading land referencing services. Anglo-North Irish Fish Producers Organisation (ANIFPO), on behalf of the Northern Ireland Fishermen!s Federation (NIFF) is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the post of:
FISHERIES SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT OFFICER Based in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland, the successful applicant will assume a key role within an industry led project that involves the Marine Stewardship Coun- cil (MSC), Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI). The contract on offer is an initial fixed term contract for 21 months supported under the EMFF program. Successful delivery of the initial objectives could lead to an extension of the contract. The position will involve working directly with Northern Ireland!s fishing industry and other stakeholders to help ensure Northern Ireland!s fishing fleet is well placed to meet the opportunities of the blue economy and by securing current and future sustainability and conservation goals. Due to the collabor- ative nature of this position, the successful applicant will regularly engage with scientists, technologists, managers, and catchers. It is therefore essential that applicants have excellent communication skills, are comfortable talking to groups of different stakeholders and can interpret a range of complex information. With support from a management committee the successful applicant will have a lead role in; - Managing current and developing future MSC accreditation for Northern Ireland fisheries - Drafting voluntary management plans for local inshore fisheries - Commencing preliminary research into the fishing fleet with respect to carbon-neutral objectives - Engaging with industry and other stakeholders around a wide range of marine sustainability issues In addition, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain experience through work on an established program of fishing gear selectivity development. This may also include the opportunity of time at sea during peri- ods of gear trialing and post-trial analysis of catch data and input into reports. A post graduate degree in an Environmental/ Marine or Fisheries science or equivalent is preferred, but not essential. Likewise, a good understanding of MSC accreditation requirements and process (or other third-party certification scheme) would be an advantage. A proven ability to conduct field work at the coast and the ability to engage effectively with the fishing industry, as well as administration and funding application experience would be advantageous. Candidates should hold a full driving license as they will be expected to carry out regular site visits to the three main commercial fishing harbours of Northern Ireland. The position of Fisheries Scientific Support Officer has a salary of circa. £35,000, depending on experience. The OFI International Postdoctoral Fellowship is awarded for two years and is non-renewable. The award provides total compensation of $55,000 CAD/year plus benefits (see 'Postdoctoral Fellow Employees'), and $15,000 CAD/year for work-related travel costs which include relocation expenses, travel to partner institutions, conferences, workshops, summer schools, and the non-travel exception for the purchase of a laptop/computer to a maximum amount of $1,500 CAD.
