Project Synopsis: This project will focus on developing key agricultural metrics of sustainability for grassland livestock and arable systems. This will be achieved by utilising historical data from previous and current AFBI and Rothamsted projects. Access to these extensive datasets will provide a unique opportunity to study physical, chemical and biological properties of grassland and arable soils in both Northern Ireland and England, and develop sustainability metrics that are robust under different environments and agricultural production systems. The developed metrics will then be used to evaluate the performance of different commercial production systems in the context of environmental, economic and societal sustainability. Mechanistic models such as Daycent will also be used to simulate nutrient losses for different scenarios when data are not available. The main aims of this research are to:

The roles are permanent and will be based in the SE region, mainly in our London office (Chancery Lane). A typical week would include: · Providing GIS input to projects, including: spatial data analysis; database design and management; mobile data collection; maintaining a GIS web portal and encompassing elements of digital map production. · In addition there will be a requirement to deliver spatial infrastructure services and develop data services/tools to external clients as well as a focus on the internal business to drive efficiencies and innovation. We’d love to hear from you if you have: · Post graduate experience ideally gained in a consultancy background (for an experienced consultant level role); · A tertiary degree (at 2:1 or above) in GIS, surveying, or related field of expertise is essential with an MSc being preferable, and at least an A-level in Maths or another numerate subject; · Expert and current technical knowledge of spatial technology and solutions is essential to develop and implement innovative geospatial solutions; · Practical experience of the Esri ArcGIS suite of products (desktop, web and mobile) and alternative open source solutions; · Knowledge of spatial data and metadata standards; · Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail; · Knowledge and experience of deployment of digital data capture tools and processes; · Skills in application development, specifically Python, .Net, SQL and Javascript, for desktop, web and mobile environments; · Self motivation, initiative and ability to learn and share new skills on the job; · Excellent verbal and written communication skills; · Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
