This is an excellent opportunity within a diverse and successful company for a candidate with knowledge and experience of scientific / technical industries or research. Experience in the oceanographic / maritime sector would help, but is not essential. Sales, marketing and commercial experience is preferred, but of greater importance is that you are a well organised and confident self-starter, hungry to learn and keen to help people. Responsibilities: Maintain excellent technical knowledge and understanding of the products and services (oceanographic sensors and loggers, field and laboratory research equipment, data services) Respond to incoming enquiries; understand the requirement and provide advice on the most appropriate solution Research and create opportunities for RS Aqua to provide solutions for new and existing customers Regular UK travel for a few days at a time (customer visits, exhibitions and conferences) and occasional international travel for training (primarily North America and Europe) Desirable Skills & Experience: Technically minded with the ability to understand and explain technical / scientific concepts and equipment with clarity and passion A scientific background gained through higher education or previous experience, ideally in the marine sector Experience of using field and/or laboratory instrumentation and sensors, ideally oceanographic Experience of working within a customer focused technical environment Experience of enquiry management and quotation preparation First class written, verbal and face-to-face communication skills Good IT skills, including databases and preferably CRM You: Organised, enthusiastic and conscientious An excellent communicator who can work well in a small and busy team Pro-active and resourceful, must be able to work with minimal supervision at times Own transport is essential (rural location) Interviews will be held in early October. JNCC advises Government on UK and international nature conservation and is seeking an enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Marine Support Officer within its Marine Directorate in Peterborough. Marine Support Officers provide scientific administration and technical support to enable JNCC to provide marine conservation advice. Marine Support Officers also contribute to work that includes developing scientific advice for Government on the evolving Marine Protected Areas network, sustainable management of activities operating within the marine environment, and communicating and sharing knowledge with partners and stakeholders. The position advertised would require someone with strong data management and GIS skills to support the storage and analysis of biological, physical and human activities data. The ideal candidate would be experienced at using software such as Access, Excel and R to manage and manipulate large data sets. Skills in managing spatial data using software such as R, ArcGIS or QGIS would also be valuable. A broad marine ecological knowledge would be preferred, but this is not essential.
