Ecologist – Belfast Our Company Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. We have a new opportunity for an experienced ecologist to work in the Belfast office with the wider ecology team in the West Region which forms part of a UK network of over 50 ecologists. We have a secured workload of projects including several of the largest infrastructure schemes in the region and require an ecologist to help in the delivery of various field surveys and reporting tasks. The Role This role is for an Ecologist for Consulting West, based mainly in Belfast, with travel to other offices and work locations in the West Region and beyond as required. The successful individual is expected to prepare, manage and execute, with limited supervision, the delivery of ecological services for internal and external clients within a wide range of projects sectors including energy, water, transport, residential and mixed use schemes. We require a candidate with extensive experience in a range of ecological surveys – including habitat surveys and protected species surveys for birds, mammals and herpetofauna. Carrying out technical reporting, provision of ecological design advice, site supervision and liaison with clients and colleagues within Arup. The Team The successful applicant will support a small ecology team, who support a wider environmental team. The Arup West Region comprises the South West of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with offices in Bristol, Cardiff, Winchester and Belfast. The region provides the majority of the diverse range of skills which form the Arup offer; the scale of the West operation is, intentionally, larger than the market dictates with 750 staff across the four offices including over 90 staff in Belfast, enabling large and complex projects to be undertaken within and outside the region. As a result, staff benefit from opportunities across a range of projects both from a skills and location point of view. Skills/Experience required for the role · Experience in a range of ecological surveys – including habitat surveys and protected species surveys for birds, mammals and herpetofauna. · Ability to work on multiple projects. · Experience of report writing, particularly ecological impact assessment and HRA/AA. · Batchelor Degree in Ecology or related subject. · Should have membership of CIEEM and ideally experience of a consultancy environment.
