Rediscovery Centre Limited, Ballymun, Dublin 11 The Rediscovery Centre The Rediscovery Centre is an award-winning social enterprise dedicated to providing community employment and training through innovative recovery, reuse, recycling and efficient disposal of waste and unwanted materials. The Centre aims to change the traditional view of waste and waste management systems by demonstrating best practice reuse and facilitating related research and education programmes. Central to our activities is the facilitation of research and education programmes and events. The Rediscovery Centre education programmes are linked to the SESE curriculum and are based on hands on enquiry and experiential learning. We provide workshops for Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Third Level institutions as well as libraries, youth and community groups. We are currently seeking enthusiastic and flexible individuals with a passion for environmental education to join our panel of Environmental Education part-time facilitators. The Role Reporting directly to the Education Programme Manager, the Environmental Education Facilitator role will relate primarily to deliver and facilitation of primary and second level environmental education workshops. The role will include but will not be limited to: • The delivery of primary schools workshops, both in Ballymun and in schools and libraries in the greater Dublin area (outreach) • The delivery of second level schools workshops, both in Ballymun and in schools and libraries in the greater Dublin area • Ensuring the professional delivery of all education programmes • Preparation of materials for workshops • Supervision and training of interns Terms and conditions Note: This summary is supplied for information only and does not constitute contractual terms. This is a part-time contractor position, subject to the ongoing requirements of the Rediscovery Centre’s Education and Research team. The role is seasonably variable due to demand and will involve flexible hours. Some work outside normal office hours will be required from time to time. The post will be based at the Rediscovery Centre, Unit 1, The Turnpike, Santry Cross, Ballymun, Dublin 11. Fees will be paid at a daily rate with a mileage allowance for eligible travel. Access to own transport is essential for outreach workshops. The covering letter should be a maximum of 2 pages. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 25th January 2016. Based on the information contained in the CV and cover letter, the interview committee will select candidates for interview. Shortlisting and interview decisions will be based on the committee’s assessment of candidates’ qualifications, experience and skills in the following areas: Academic qualifications: • Third level qualification in environmental science, science communication, teaching or other relevant qualification. Experience: • Proven experience in environmental education • Experience working with children Skills: • Excellent facilitation skills, especially with young people • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written • Knowledge of the primary and/or secondary curricula and programmes such as Green Schools • Full clean driving licence and access to own transport is essential • The ability to inspire and motivate children and adults to engage with the environment, science, engineering and maths • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and Excel essential • Knowledge of or a strong interest in environmental issues and sustainability • Strong organisational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work, professional and reliable • Competency in Irish would be an advantage Interviews Interviews will take place in Ballymun on 11th February 2016.
