The project will deliver the scientific baseline necessary to support the inclusion of seagrass protections into Seychelles’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement, to bolster global efforts to lessen the impacts of climate change. The Research Assistant will support an international team of researchers on this project to fill key data gaps regarding seagrass distribution, extent, and soil carbon stock by drawing on advances in satellite remote sensing and field data collection. The Research Assistant will assist with literature and data synthesis, technical writing, organizing collaborative meetings, field planning and logistics, and foundational geospatial and remote sensing work. The post will provide excellent experience of interdisciplinary ocean science, working at the interface of marine research, conservation and policy. You will have a degree (2:1 or above) in marine biology or a relevant discipline with demonstrable writing and literature review skills and deep interest or existing skill sets related to marine geospatial science, remote sensing and coral reef ecosystem studies.
