GeoTenerife is urgently looking for 14 undergraduate or recent graduates to participate in volcano monitoring programmes in the Canary Islands, due to a recent reactivation in La Palma's volcanic system. The programme is run in conjunction with the Canarian Volcanology Institute.
Twelve of these are for La Palma, due to a recent reactivation in the Cumbre Vieja volcanic system. This reactivation can result in many outcomes, including a possible eruption. Therefore, please be aware that the programme offered will need to be adapted if conditions on the ground change. Two further posts are for Gran Canaria, to finish this summer's geothermal exploration by geochemistry survey. Due to the unusual urgency of this programme, in this instance only, places will be offered on a first-come, first served basis to qualifying undergraduate or recent postgrad students from relevant courses. Please note there is a fee to participate, to cover accommodation, transport, transfers to other islands, all local fees, excursions and liability insurance for a month. To avoid confusion, from 2018 this programme will no longer be called 'Internships' and will be rebranded as a 'Field Course' under our 'Field School' banner. We are committed to offering equal opportunities and helping to train talented volcanologists. To enable access, scholarships will be offered from 2018 on our Field Course and Volcano Camps (see @GeoTscholar). Our 2018 programme will be published next month. Please see www.geotenerife.com/internships for full details.
